Emily Longhurst – Norfolk Sailboat Artist

I love to paint with bright and vibrant colours using bold illustrative imagery. I’m often inspired by the sea, I love watching it’s ever changing mood, energy and colour. It’s whilst following this theme back in 2016 I started to create unique, hand painted sailboats, where the sail becomes my canvas.

My Process

The sails are made from hardboard and are lightly sanded and primed, before I begin creating the original hand painted design. To achieve a permanent and light fast colour I work in acrylic and indian ink. Each sail is then given a light coat of satin varnish to provide extra protection. I finish each sail by giving it a map on the back, I have designed my own maps of the Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex Coastlines. To complete the boats I make the hulls using driftwood and reclaimed wood, most of which I have collected from the beautiful Norfolk coastline.

Porthole Painting

I love these new additions, keen to extend my Norfolk Sailboat range, inspiration came whilst on holiday I found myself peering through the porthole at the beautiful boats sailing the ocean.

Brooches

I enjoy to adorn your home with prints and Sailboats but I have always had a fondness for the simplicity of a brooch brightening a jacket. Which led me to creating these unique, handpainted, original brooches.
