About me

I trained in textiles at Leeds College of Art and Design where I completed a BA hons Degree in Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design in 2000. I worked as a freelance textile designer and then gradually moved towards painting, and began to exhibit in Norfolk galleries and exhibitions.

I have always kept busy creatively, learning new skills through adult education in woodwork, photography and various forms of printing making.

What inspires me

I’m continually inspired by the beautiful Norfolk countryside and coastline. I can often be found beach combing and collecting driftwood for my sailboats, whilst walking my dogs.

The sea itself is my main source of inspiration, I love watching its ever changing mood, energy and colour. I definitely feel an affinity to the North Norfolk coast where I spent many hours as a child in all kinds of weathers whilst my parents mastered the art of windsurfing. My grandfather was also born in Blakeney and his father spent some years as warden of Blakeney marshes with his faithful dog, Sandy. It continues to be a special place to my family; for generations we have been messing about on boats, skis and windsurfers.

My work

Since having children I have found my work has evolved into a more playful and imaginative style. At the moment I’m really enjoying working in a bold illustrative way using acrylic and indian ink.

Having collected lots of drift wood for many years I am pleased to have developed a place for it within my creative work in the form of sailboat hulls. I love the process of carefully working with each piece of drift wood and reclaimed wood, shaping them into various styles. To complete each boat I create a unique hand painted sail giving every boat its own story and adventure to fulfil.
